Your 2019 Guide to Summer Activities in San Diego

While it’s still looking a bit like June gloom to me, I know that summer is on the horizon and San Diegans can look forward to plenty of sunny beach days soon! With the kids getting out of school for summer and lots of beautiful and warm weather on the way, it’s a good idea to start planning out your summer in San Diego.

As a San Diego real estate agent of 40 years, I’m thrilled to provide my clients and prospective clients with this guide to summer activities in San Diego.

Endless Beach Days

One of the first summer activities in San Diego you can expect to enjoy this year is endless beach days. Whether you want to go surfing, boogie boarding, wave surfing, wading, paddle boarding, look at sea creatures, or build sand castles, there’s a good beach for everyone. If you always go to the same old beach, why not check out a new beach this summer?

Grab your beach towel, umbrella, sunscreen, and cooler and head to one of the best beaches in California. If you prefer calm water, Mission Bay, Glorietta Bay, and Kellogg Beach are great spots to visit. If you want to see sea life, La Jolla Cove is a great spot snorkeling and spotting sea lions. The tide pools at Cabrillo National Monument are also a great spot to see sea creatures in San Diego. If you want to impress visitors with beautiful beaches, head out to La Jolla Shores, Coronado or Windansea.

Pro Tip: Get to the beach before 11 am to find parking.

FREE Summer Concerts in San Diego

Almost every neighborhood has some sort of free summer concert series you can enjoy throughout the summer in your local park. Grab a blanket, chairs and a picnic basket and head to your local park for free and entertaining music, perfect for the whole family!

Summer in San Diego is the perfect excuse to spend as much time outside as possible, even for watching movies. There are a number of ways you can enjoy your favorite movies under the stars.

First, you can check out the Free Summer Movies in the Park website to see which movies playing at local parks around San Diego.

If you would prefer a different setting, head over to the Hotel Del Coronado to catch a movie on the beach, a one-of-a-kind experience.

You can also grab a beer at Stone Brewing at Liberty Station and watch a movie in their garden.

Santee Lakes and Little Italy also has summer outdoor movies you can enjoy all summer long.

If you would prefer a classic outdoor movie experience, head over to the Santee Drive-in Movie Theater, one of the few drive-ins left in San Diego county!

San Diego’s Attractions

Not only is summer the time for visiting the beach, summer concerts, and outdoor movies, but also longer hours at our local attractions. The San Diego Zoo has late hours all summer long until 8 pm where you can enjoy entertainment for the whole family.

Head to our local waterpark in Chula Vista – Aquatica SeaWorld. Visit the wave pool, race down slides and see flamingos and turtles. The perfect summer experience for all ages.

LEGOLAND California is the perfect spot to visit in the summer. Enjoy rides, a waterpark, and aquarium in one spot!

You can also visit SeaWorld San Diego, Birch Aquarium, and Living Coast Discovery Center to see your favorite sea creatures up close.

San Diego County Fair

If rides are what you crave, SeaWorld, Belmont Park, and the San Diego County Fair can give you all the rides you need for a thrill this summer.

Love Summer in San Diego? Make it Home Permanently

While San Diego has so much to see and do during the summer, renting a home doesn’t guarantee that this beautiful place will always be your home. Stop throwing away money at rent and invest in your future instead by buying a home. With our booming housing market, if you ever decide to move away from San Diego, at least your home will give you a profit should you decide to sell.
